 Let the current take you - at the Recanto Ecologico Rio da Prata
Snorkeling in groups of up to 9 persons accompanied by a specialized guide. First you will receive the appropriate equipment -already included in the price of the package - to snorkel in the river. To reach the headwaters of the river Olho D´água, where the dives begin, the group is transported to the private nature sanctuary.
The ecological trip begins with an aesthetic interpretive trail walk through the riverine forests of the Rio da Prata (which means Silver River). You will encounter innumerable century old trees, orchids and bromeliads along the trajectory as well as Black Howler Monkeys, Capuchin Monkeys, Agouti, White-lipped and Collared peccaries, and Coatis among others.
The trail ends at the headwaters of the Rio Olho D´água, an immense natural pool of crystaline water, where there will be a brief training presentation before the dive. The guide will help outfit everyone with their equipment for the dive and exploration of the depths.
A gentle current whisks the visitors calmly along a journey in an enchanted sub-aquatic world, inhabited by dozens of species of fishes and aquatic plants. You fill find yourself surrounded by piraputangas, dorados, curimbatás, piaus, matogrossinhos and other fishes of the Pantanal. With luck, a Caiman, an Anaconda or even a Neo-tropical otter could cross your path.
You will float downriver, drifting approximately 2 km ( miles), until the confluence of the river Olho D´água and the Rio da Prata. At this point you can decide to continue snorkeling, or embark on a small boat with an electric motor. The journey, in total, takes about 4 hours. At the end of the dive, a delicious lunch with traditional Pantanal foods awaits. Afterwards, you can relax in a hammock and reminisce.
Note: All of the necessary equipment (5 mm neoprene wetsuit, neoprene boots, mask and snorkel) as well as optional equipment (life jacket) are included in the price of the package as well as accident insurance and the cost of the guide.
Pantanal Expeditions offers day trips that combine Snorkeling and lunch at Rio da Prata as well as a visit to Buracco das Arraras in the afternoon each Monday and Friday with common van service exept during holidays and by private van service on all other days.
